Fifa 19 was all the hype on it’s release, but turns out that it didn’t take long before opinions became divided. Here’s a recap to timed finesse shots.
The introduction of FUT Rivals, easier access to FUT Champs, and the new Timed-shooting mechanic ensured a lot of hype in the FIFA community. Initial reception was great, but it didn’t take too long before the first problem with the new implemented mechanic was discovered.
Mainly, it was just too good. Players with average-at-best shooting statistics would end up consistently scoring bangers from 20 yards out into the top corner.

One major manifestation of this imbalance was the fact that it really staled the Meta of FIFA, both in FUT Champs as in Rivals. Generally, people would just play a defensive possession based style, lurking for the right angle with virtually any player from outside the box, or looking to counter attack. Even worse was that players with great shooting stats like Kane would not necessarily need a timed finesse shot to hit the corner.

This resulted in the game just becoming less fun, having to play the same style over and over again making the whole experience going stagnant. Due to the competitiveness in both the Rivals and Champs modes, there was no real room for ”play for fun”. When there is no need to do so, people play according to the Meta and so you would face the same type of teams over and over again across various game modes.
With the patch that fixed the imbalance with this mechanic, the game opened up a few more viable ways of approaching a game, with the back-line cross emerging initially as the best way to go.

But what do you guys think? Did fixing the timed finesse improved the game? Share your thoughts below.
